COVID-19 symptoms and what to do

COVID-19 symptoms

Cases where children suffer Corona style symptoms such as:

  • a high temperature
  • a new continuous cough
  • loss of, or change in, normal sense of taste or smell

ACTIONS:

  • do NOT come to school
  • organise a test by calling 119 or through www.nhs.uk/coronavirus (see link below)
  • the child and all their household will need to self-isolate at home whilst awaiting the test results.
  • inform the school of the result
  • if the test is positive - self-isolate for 10 days.  The household will need to self isolate for 14 days and should arrange a test to see if they have coronavirus (COVID-19).
  • if the test is negative the child can return to school

Confirmed case in school

In the event of a confirmed case of Coronavirus, the respective class group at school will be immediately shut down and all children and relevant members of staff will need to self-isolate for 14 days.

Suspected case

Where a child is sick, staff will wear PPE equipment and children will be taken to a separate room which will be ventilated where they will be isolated from staff and other children. A member of staff will check on the child from a safe distance to check on their well-being but will not be in the room with them and, once contacted, parents will need to pick up without delay.
